Amulets formed an important part of funerary goods, intended to grant the divine protthe funerary equipment and were believed to bestow a divine protection upon the deceased. Amulets could have a form of small figurines of gods, sacred symbols or hieroglyphic signs, made of a variety of materials, like faience or clay. Often these items were placed directly on a mummy. The photograph shows objects found by the Saqqara Mission at the cemetery near the tomb of Merefnebef.
