Exploration of the burials at the Upper Necropolis in the area to the south and to the east of the tomb of Ikhi. Exploration of the structures at the western bank of the Dry Moat below the level of the tomb of Ikhi. On-site anthropological analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

19th campaign (12th February – 29th March 2014)

Clearing and documentation of the previously identified structures within the Dry Moat. On-site anthropological and geological analyses. Ongoing conservation work. Volume V of the Saqqara mono graphic series has been published.

 

18th campaign (1st September – 18th October 2012)

Exploration of the front part of the tomb of Ikhi. Lower level of tombs identified in the western bank of the Dry Moat. Geophysical survey. Ongoing conservation work.

 

17th campaign (1st – 23rd September 2011)

Site assessment after the 2011 Arab Spring Revolution. Conservation work in the tombs and of the artefacts held in the magazines of the Imhotep Museum.

 

16th campaign (15th September – 21st October 2010)

Exploration of the burials of the Lower Necropolis in the area to the east of the eastern bank of the Dry Moat. Identification of the evidence suggestive of an extensive use of the area for quarrying during the 3rd Dynasty. On-site anthropological and geological analyses. Ongoing conservation work. Volume IV of the Saqqara series has been published.

 

15 campaign (3rd October – 23rd November 2009)

Exploration of the burials of the Upper Necropolis in the area to the east of the eastern bank of the Dry Moat. On-site anthropological and palaeobotanical analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

14th campaign (5th October – 24th November 2008)

Revision and compilation of the data collected from the Lower Necropolis for publication. On-site anthropological analyses. Ongoing conservation work. Volume III of the Saqqara series has been published.

 

13th campaign (1st September – 24th October 2007)

Revision and compilation of the data collected from the Upper Necropolis for publication. Work continued in the area to the north of the tombs of NyankhnefertemHetepu and Pehenptah. On-site geological analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

12th campaign (30th August – 22nd October 2006)

Exploration of the area to the north of the tombs of Nyankhnefertem, Hetepu and Pehenptah; – Additional numerous burials at the Upper Necropolis uncovered; some of the burial took place in anthropoid pits hewn in the bedrock. On-site anthropological, paleobotanical and palaeozoological analyses. Ongoing conservation work. Volume II of the Saqqara series has been published.

 

11th campaign (3rd September – 24th October 2005)

Exploration of the area adjoining the enclosure wall of the Netjerykhet’s funerary complex, below the level of the mud brick platform. Exploration and documentation of the area to the east and to the north of the tomb of Nyankhnefertem. On-site palaeozoological analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

10th campaign (4th September – 26th October 2004)

Exploration and documentation of funerary shafts discovered in previous campaigns in the area between the tomb of Merefnebef and the enclosure wall of the Netjerykhet’s funerary complex. Ongoing conservation work. Volume I of the Saqqara series has been published.

 

9th campaign (4th September – 23rd October 2003)

Exploration of the area to the north of the tomb of Merefnebef; discovery of the tomb of Nyankhnefertem. Exploration of the tombs in Corridor 2. On-site anthropological analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

8th campaign (14th September – 31st October 2002)

Exploration of the area at the expected western bank of the Dry Moat (trial-pit no. III of the 1987 campaign). Discovery of the tomb of Ikhi. On-site anthropological and palaeobotanical analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

VII campaign (October 7th – November 22nd, 2001)

Continuation of the work in the area adjacent to the enclosure wall of the Netjerykhet’s funerary complex; discovery of a New Kingdom mudbrick Platform built at the enclosure wall. Ongoing conservation work.

 

6th campaign (28th August – 22nd October 2000)

Continuation of the work in the area adjacent to the enclosure wall of the Netjerykhet’s funerary complex. Exploration of the eastern part of the Dry Moat; discovery of the Corridors 1 and 2 and of the tomb of Seshemnefer. On-site anthropological and geological analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

5th campaign (21st August – 14th October 1999)

Exploration of the Upper and Lower Necropolis in two areas: 1) between the mastaba of Hetepu and the enclosure wall of the Netjerykhet’s funerary complex; 2) between the tomb of Merefnebef and the eastern bank of the Dry Moat. Geophysical survey. On-site anthropological analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

4th campaign (17th August – 12th October 1998)

Exploration of the Upper and Lower Necropolis between mastabas of Merefnebef and Hetepu. On-site geological and palaeozoological analyses. On-site anthropological analyses. Ongoing conservation work.

 

3rd campaign (6th September – 16th October 1997)

Exploration of the Upper Necropolis. Discovery of the mastaba and funerary chapel of Merefnebef. On-site anthropological analyses. Conservation work in the decorated chapel commenced.

 

2nd campaign (1st September – 13th October 1996)

Archaeological work focused on the trial-pit no. I, situated – as it turned out during the next campaign – within the outer court of the tomb of Merefnebef. On-site anthropological analyses.

 

1st campaign (16th April – 21st May 1987)

On-site archaeological work commenced: geophysical survey and excavation in three trial-pits to the West of the Step Pyramid complex.
